FOR THEIR SAFETY,POLIO VACCINE REQUIRED FOR OFWs BOUND TO PAKISTAN AND AFGHANISTAN

POLIO VACCINE REQUIRED FOR OFWs BOUND TO PAKISTAN AND AFGHANISTAN

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said that  all Overseas Filipino workers (OFW) are now required to have polio vaccination before they are allowed to head to Pakistan and Afghanistan as both countries continue to struggle eliminating the disease in their territories.

POEA Administrator Hans Cacdac said the issuance is in compliance to the advisory of the World Health Organization (WHO) urging the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to require the vaccination to Filipinos bound for Pakistan and Afghanistan against polio.
DFA noted WHO is recommending the use of Oral Polio Vaccine or Inactive Poliovirus Vaccine (IPV) for the immunization process.
The said safety measure aims to protect the OFWs from being infected by wild polio virus that is widely spreading in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

All OFWs are advised to be cautious as the DFA earlier declared an Alert Level 1 (Precautionary Phase) in Pakistan and an Alert Level 3 (Voluntary Repatriation Phase) in Afghanistan due to ongoing tension in the two South Asian nations.
